WORTH CONSUMING!

Finally saw Citizen Kane yesterday. I was lucky enough to see it on a (relatively) big screen in the Cinematek (Brussels’ movie museum) – and am lucky enough to have the kind of friends that invite me to these things.

I didn’t want to expect too much, claims such as “greatest movie of all time” can set the bar too high. But it turned out to be brilliant! I loved Welles’ performance as Kane. The camerawork contributes a lot to the story, there are so many great shots. And there were a bunch of cool one-liners too, what more can you want :)

I did kind of guess the outcome of the “mystery”… my friend told me which episode of The Simpsons drew a lot from Citizen Kane before we went in and it was easy to make the link. Still that didn’t spoil any of the story for me. Great movie!

WORTH CONSUMING!

This movie was well done, the best black and white movie i’ve seen. It had many different camera shots to keep it interesting, and took the story to another level. As for being an old movie it barely had any cheesy dialogue, which i seem to encounter in all old movies. I liked it. Orson welles was at his peak with this movie, by looks too. oh man i saw him in Touch of Evil, he got chubby from all that money.

being a child of color i am always a little wary of black and white films. love the cookie, love the relationships, but somehow have never jumped on the b+w film bandwagon. that being said i don’t think this movie would have been able to be made in color. it would have lost it’s appeal, at least to me. the movie was good, especially for the time-frame. loneliness and loss of childhoood, trying to fill the void of being abandoned with everyone loving him, resonates throughout the flick. (i didn’t put it together until the sled at the end but i am v. slow). the only thing i found hokey was when kane was destroying his wife’s bedroom at xanadu. all i kept thinking was RAARRR i’m a big monster destroying a dollhouse. all in all i’m glad i watched it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

The fact that he was in his twenties when he did this – amazing.

There is a reason that it is considered the greatest movie of all time.

the documentary is really worth watching. He really was WAY ahead of his time. Brilliant, and the story was fantastic as well.

A film that truly deserves it’s hype, and comes with an excellent documentary and commentary as well.
