Dilemma: I love Dan Simmons, but I hated Charles Dickens. Meh.
Actually, the book turned out to be good – not great, as it’s just way too long imo. The Dickens-esque style is maintained perfectly, and the spooky story really did leave me wondering what would happen next. And while yes, all the background and diversions were perfectly fitting with both the tale and style, I did sometimes wonder how exactly I wasn’t bored yet with this 750+ page epic!
So, interesting, glad I’ve read it, but not as gripping as Simmons’ other books. Tons better than anything I read in school of Dickens’ work, though! ;)
