WORTH CONSUMING!
Joseph Strick has done an admirable job of translating Joyce’s prose to film. He managed to retain the stream-of-consciousness style of the writing by using some innovative film techniques, such as cutting in fantasy scenes and remembrances, regarbing characters mid-conversation, and maintaining a very even dramatic tone throughout. The acting is, perhaps, overly theatric, better suited to stage, but it works. And now that I have some sense of what the story is, I may be able to attack the book once again. Fourth time’s a charm?
