WORTH CONSUMING!

I just saw this movie last weekend on some channel’s “Asian Invasion Saturday.” I was surprised that it was so good. It was funny without being stupid, and I really loved Sing’s transformation at the end. I’ll have to rent it so I can see it unedited and without commercials…

WORTH CONSUMING!

I watched this tonight with a group of friends, all of whom are very different individuals with unique tastes in film and literature. We were all impressed with the film for its enteratinment value on a variety of levels, including (but not limited to): special effects, choreography, genre blending (action/comedy/drama), and sheer originality of presentation.

We all laughed, oohed-and-ahhed, winced and cheered throughout. Lots of fun to watch.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Don’t expect this film to be an Oscar-winner, but it’s great to watch. I have to say Stephen Chow has weird humor; the movie made me laugh on some of the more serious scenes. The special effects are wonderful as well.

This is definitely a huge sigh of relief over the almost standard, epic-war-invisible-rope-hulabaloo-heavy-drama-almost-the-same-storyline Asian movies that have graced the big screen over the years.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m Asian (so throw the racist thing out the window) but surely there are lots of genres film directors could try on instead of always concentrating on the action-drama stuff. Try comedy, for once.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

This was pretty similar to any other kung fu movie, but with lots more special effects. I guess that’s why I didn’t like it so much, and why other people would like it a lot. By the same guy who did Shaolin Soccer, but more bloody.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Asian films can do an amazing job blending tons of action and comedy into the same film. This is one of those. A great movie along the same lines as Stephen Chao’s last, Shaolin Soccer.

WORTH CONSUMING!

So i said to my sister as she introduced me to this film for the first time. Most American action films have funny moments but aren’t made to be comedies. I guess that’s why this movie seemed so different to me. It had good plot, fighting, and humor. I definitely recommend this film to anyone! Well made and well enjoyed and full of several quotable lines that i have no idea if they are true translations.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Got this out yesterday (I also hired The Experiment and Ripleys Game – so they’ll be watched soon).

This movie is fantastic. I don’t believe I’ve ever laughed at a single movie so much. It was the cheesy lines, and ridiculous stereotypes that made me laugh. There is some mighty impressive fighting (as you’d expect), and some astounding special effects.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this – and recommend it to all. I wouldn’t say it’s a good introductory movie to the martial arts genre (because of the westernised cheesy-ness – it might give you the wrong impression for the rest of the genre), but if you’re into that scene it’s great.

An awesome movie! Too bad there wasn’t more dancing, though.

Nothing like a rousing Kung Fu fairytale to get the blood flowing and the pulse moving.

Watched it through, watched the deleted scenes and other DVD extras, started the movie over and watched it again. I cringed a bit at the violence at first, but overall it’s beautiful to look at. Great costumes, interesting characters, not the standard Kung Fu movie plot.

This movie is classic and different. It’s got a great blend of slapstick, martial arts, fantastic special effects, and bizarreness. Stephen Chow is fantastic.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I am not a martial arts fan or really a fan of this kind of hunmor, but my husband rented this movie and I thought it was pretty good. There were some really creative things in it. It was very offbeat and odd-silly funny, but in some ways very unique and thoughtful with an effective use of computer effects.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is not the best martial arts movie I’ve seen, but if you want to laugh your ass off at goofy special moves and subtle puns, watch this. The first time I watched it I could not stop laughing. The fighting musician scene has no equal that I can think of. The ending was kind of cheesey, but so were many of the jokes too. So, I guess it was to be expected. Stephen Chow is amazing, and I hope he gets the chance to make Hollywood movies (as long as he is permitted the creativity he enjoys in China).

this movie was pretty fun, but, yeah. not at all what i was expecting it to be. i was maybe expecting more dancing? there was that one tiny bit at the beginning where the guy did a little hustle right before he killed someone with an axe, but that was it. despite the lack of hustle, i liked the characters, especially the landlady, and those bad guys who killed with music.

Not Quite what I expected, Not quite what I wanted, still good — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Kung Fu Hustle is ultimately a good movie.

Note, it’s not really what I wanted it to be really. The action scenes were a lot more intense than I expected and the film had a lot less slapstick than I was hoping for, and also, and this may just be the English dubbing I watched it in on my first time through, I think the timing of the jokes was a little off. Even the sight gags seemed a little laggy.

On the other hand, the more I think about it, the more I realized that if the movie is flawed, it has nothing to do with its subject matter, story, or plot.

It’s worth a rental at the very least and is definitley worth a purchase if Kung-Fu movies are your thing.
