A story about this — 1 year ago
It was quite graphically violent at times, but as I long as I averted my eyes, it was enjoyable – a really good story.

Stories of revenge usually take the side of how revenge never comes across the way you want. When a movie like this tries to impress the viewer with “superior” motives and will power, and the right to personal revenge, what we get is sickness.
It would be nice to be able to handle matters with force, but 100% of the time, the object of revenge is smart enough to be too far removed from your grasp.
Aside from that, this movie gives about every predictable stereotypical scene you can imagine. A few laughs, and that’s it. Just not a good movie on any level.
Who wrote the dialogue for this? I was shocked at how horrible it was.
Also…empowered hookers? Really? Isn’t that pretty much an oxymoron?

I was completely surprised by the quality of the script, I mean those voice overs were so well done. For me the most impressive thing was the cinematography; it was absolutely stunning and that alone is a great reason to see this.
On a side note, Clive Owen…not the best at an American accent…sorry that bothered me.

Yeah, I was expecting violence, slightly silly story. What I got was so much violence, a story so empty and characters I disliked so much that I turned it off 25 minutes into the movie.
Which is a shame, because it was so visually stunning. But I had better things to do with my time. Like wash dishes.

I heard Sin City was good, but I kind of assumed that was thanks to the editing and visual styles which left the viewer stunned and speechless, unable to seriously consider the other aspects of the film. Was I ever wrong. Not only is this movie visually appealing, it works with one of the most exceptional plotlines in contemporary action film (not that this is my preferred genre, but I can tell, dig?). Not only worth consuming once, worth consuming repeatedly; I suspect different aspects will impress me with each repeat viewing.

This is my kind of movie. I don’t know why I waited so long to see it! I thought it would be super gory, but in B&W, the gore factor fell by the wayside. Plus, it’s just not that gory. Very watchable. I don’t know if this helped it along or what, but I happened to be very heavily under the influence of some delicious Riesling. I think it heigtened the experience and made it that much better. Just saying!

The “cinematography” is absolutly amazing and the sheer simplicity of the storyline is what draws me the most to this movie. Too many movies today try to overdo the plot and very few people succeed in creating deep films. Kudos to the directors for not taking this graphic novel over the top but to the top.
i rented this from my lib a bit ago and finally got around to watching it. i went into it not really thinking i was going to enjoy it. was i wrong! visually pleasing. great language. “she smells like angels ought to smell.”

In addition to the wonderfuly unique visual aspects of this movie, I found the story refreshing as well. Sure it didn’t have your standard cookie cutter story line and the over all plot line was not very deep. For me, the real beauty of the story wasn’t in the final destination, but in the journey. I liked the way the story was presented an smaller separate stories, like editions of a graphic novel. You might not see immediately how the story fit in with the overall plot, but eventually it would fall into place.
If there was a place I felt the movie was a little weak, it was the dialogue. Even then, the terse dialoge and narrator driven story worked for the style of tough nior Americana it was trying to convey.

Visually stunning, but the style is so much more than the substance. It looks like a moving comic in the world of film noir, but somehow the translation from film noir to graphic novel and back leaves something out. It’s definitely worth seeing, but it ultimately becomes more of an exercise than a film that grabs you.

I found it interesting what other people had to say about Sin City. I think it could have been one of my all time favourite films, had the pacing and editing been snappier. Visually, it is fantastic – and of course, it has Clive Owen, who can do dark and brooding with the best of them. The violence is quite drastic – I usually can’t watch violent stuff, but this was so stylised that I found it all quite in context, and often excellently over-the-top.

This movie is awesome. It moves kind of slow, but I loved it any way! I plan on owning it when it comes out on DVD
