Much of my dislike for this books stems from the time period, and, I know, I cannot complain about it. It finds a great deal of its depth in description, which is not depth at all for me. For the time period, it lacks some of the inner thought and deliberation that I find fascinating, and replaces it with subtle musings and vast and detailed descriptions of EXACTLY what took place. Not a terrible read, but lengthy. Above this, Crusoe himself becomes one of the most unsympathetic characters I can even think of. I cannot bring myself to recommend it, but I will say that it certainly has a place in history. I’m glad that I HAVE read it, but am sorry that I had to read it to be able to say so.
