NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Gosh this was an awful film. Not at all funny, not at all sad. Skipped over huge chunks of the story with no explanation or chance for development. I felt like so much was changed from the book of this, for starters we’re not in Ireland any more they moved it to the States…and why did they make Daniel seem like such a sleaze? None of the characters seemed in keeping with the way I remember them from the book. Didn’t even bother to finish watching it.
The only good thing I can say about the movie, is that it was seeing the trailer that made me want to read the book in the first place, which I actually did enjoy. Shame on the filmmakers for ruining it so!

WORTH CONSUMING!

When I was pregnant, I was having an awful time with perinatal depression and anxiety. I actually took a month off work just to get myself together so I rented this movie one night under the assumption it was a “light” romantic comedy. I was bawling within the first 10 minutes of the film. Holy cow, I didn’t see that coming! Then I got excited again because they play The Pogues Fairytale of New York in the beginning of the film and I love any movie that features the Pogues on their soundtrack so even though I was a little wary, I kept watching.
Ultimately, I was glad I did.
I thought it was a sweet concept, what he did for her. Although the movie doesn’t really broaden your horizons or deepen your understanding of some highly intellectual aspect of the human condition, it’s a good way to wile away some time with a box of tissues and a gallon of Ben & Jerrys. Also, even though the material wasn’t really comical, there were some moments through out the movie that did have me laughing and groaning in awkward empathy. I was very glad the movie ended on a positive note.

WORTH CONSUMING!

jaysus, joseph and mary, watching this movie is like having a 2-hour emotional enema.

now all I want is to go to Ireland, get some new pretty shoes, and take a nap—pretty much in reverse order.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I haven’t read the book and to be honest i thought this movie would be awful, but it really surprised me. I just loved the whole story about how he dies, but it’s like he cares about her even after his death because he sends her the letters to make everything easier for her and so that she can actually move on with her life after that. I really loved that. I mean think if something like that happened to you, wouldn’t you love that your husband did that? so i’m saying this movie is worth watching because it was worth everything for me. I understand the movie might not live up to the book as movies often don’t live up to books, but people should give it a try even if! :)

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I couldn’t finish it at the first time. And at the second time. I’m watching it for the third time, where I left it. It’s just that I don’t like it. Never had this feeling with a movie. It’s too bad!

I read the book, and didn’t enjoy it as it should be.

Honestly, what’s the big deal with all this?

Just writing and talking about feelings, feelings that are not properly reflected.

Too much talking, and no action!

Awful.

And it has nothing to do with the book.

I didn’t like the book very much and don’t know why I thought the movie would be better. It wasn’t.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I went into this movie knowing almost nothing and expecting nothing. I love Gerard Butler and thought I’d give it a shot. I cried through the whole thing, but I cry at commercials. Ultimately I loved it!! Totally romantic, different from the typical. Loved Gerry’s character, he’s just adorable and Holly’s character is very real. Worth seeing!

Why I gave up consuming this — 1 year ago

I thought this was going to be a cute romantic comedy but it seemed like more of a drama than anything. It’s true, I didn’t finish watching it and I’ve heard there are some really funny moments in it, later on. But I wasn’t prepared to have a sob-fest to get to them. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t really like movies that make me cry more than once anymore. So I cried when he first died, I cried when she called his cell phone just to hear his voice on the recorded message and then I turned it off before I could cry about the cake and recorded song he had prebooked before he died to be sent on her birthday.

On another note, Gerard Butler’s Irish accent was horrible! Maybe the producers wrongly assumed that because he was Scottish, he could do an Irish accent without training so they skipped on the voice coach. I actually really like Gerard Butler, he’s one of the reasons I wanted to see this movie but even I have to admit his accent was a joke!
