WORTH CONSUMING!

Well, I did it! I’ve read every issue of Y: the Last Man. It was both great and sucked at the same time.

Why great: This is one of the best stories of all-time. BKV is a genius. It’s just brilliant stuff. The last man on earth having to repopulate the earth. You’d think this was done to death, but Y took that genre and turned it on it’s ear. This is classic feminist fiction- yet a dude did it! (Or is BKV really a woman and nobody told me?)

Why sucked: It’s over. I expected this series to last for a very long time. Sixty issues is a nice chunk of tales to read- but I wanted more, more, more. Also I hated how it ended for Agent 355.

Lastly, the last issue was perfect. It covered all the bases of what happened after all the men die. But, there is a few unanswered questions. 1st: Yorick is supposedly bald in all his flashbacks- yet when he appears 60 years later, he’s got a mane of silver hair- so was that really him locked up or was that really him in those flash backs? Case in point, Yorick meets up with his sister, Hero in Africa. But then he’s gone and Beth asks if she’s still hearing voices?

This was great stuff. I hate to see it go. Maybe there will be a one-shot to tie up these lose ends.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s fair to say that Y: The Last Man is a life-changing story. The tale of the last man left on Earth makes you fall in love with the characters while exploring themes such as feminism, global politics and cloning. At the same time, it’s still a comic book and it packs in plenty of boyish humor and wacky pop culture references. So what happens to the last man on Earth? Must he screw every chick on planet Earth to save the species? Well, yes and no. Worth a read for any graphic novel-loving mammal.
