Terrific homage to George Romero and others. — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I don’t know why people are saying Shaun of the Dead is to zombie flicks like Scary Movie is to horror films. Shaun of the Dead is actually a brilliantly executed homage to films like Night of the Living Dead and Zombie, chock-full of references to those who are fans of the genre, as opposed to being a straight-up spoof that makes fun of its subject material.

At the same time the film manages to be original and hilarious, though towards the end it does start to get a bit serious, deviating heavily from a lot of the general hilarity of the first half. Also, it felt a bit short (at only an hour and a half), but that’s forgivable really. Altogether Shaun of the Dead is quite an excellent film, for people who both love and hate zombie movies.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I LOVE this film. I hate zombie films and maybe thats why i love this so much. That makes no sense at all…

Anyway it’s a great parody, typically British, Simon Peg is great as predicatable looser with long suffering girlfriend, Shaun. It’s really funny, a little bit sad, and has one of the best soundtracks on a film ever.

I just love the rendition of White Lines as they leave The Winchester before they have figured out whats going on. Just makes me giggle.

Brilliant film, makes me want to see Hot Fuzz even more.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

For me, there were some enjoyable parts to the movie, but overall I didn’t think it was worth my time. On the other hand, I know some people who would (and did) find this movie hilarious.

The movie took a bit of time to really get into, and there were a number of really gory parts. I found parts where people died more sad than funny.

Don’t get me wrong…....I enjoyed all the ‘living dead’ franchise. But as a Brit, this is just…...I guess….........funnier….........in a good way!

WORTH CONSUMING!

Granted, I probably would have gotten more out of the film if I had seen even one zombie movie in my whole life, but the movie stands up well (even if one does not know it is a spoof.) As cliche as this sounds, the movie had it all. It’s a comedy, horror, romance, and even has some social commentary underneath. I don’t think I have ever seen a movie-in my entire life-that mixed so many things and actually did it well.
In the beginning, the film makes fun of “how people in horror films find out something has gone awry” to the point that when it does happen, it seems anticlimatic. After the realization, the characters do not get the traditional weapons, but opt for a laundry basket full of household items and eventually vinyl records to hurl at the zombies’ heads.
I also liked the point the film made about “what are zombies really?” Shaun had trouble realizing the world was in turmoil. While people were being turned into undead monsters, they were not acting much different than they normally seemed to act every day.
There are just too many well-done scenes to mention here. Suffice to say, it’s just an all-round great film. Now I think I’ll even go out and watch the four zombie movies that inspired the film!

WORTH CONSUMING!

I love zombie movies. Just a soft spot of mine. I enjoy the good with the bad. I love a good gore effect, but I also enjoy a bad gore effect. I have seen many a zombie movie in my time and Shaun Of The Dead is easily one of my favourites. It’s so funny and the Shaun character is so likable. I had seen it before and it really was just as good the second time around.

For all the hype, it could have been better. — 3 years ago

This is what I call preppy horror. I am guilty of first downloading this movie before it came out in the US because I was highly curious. At first, it started good. Some good horror elements, then it incorporated some humor and fun. Then it took an awful turn into a romance that two characters oblivious did not have any chemistry. That is where it turned me off to this movie. It just did not work. Once was enough for me.

Great movie, it really takes the piss out of zombie movies and horror movies in general! It was sort of like a British version of the Scary Movie spoofs.

I had no desire whatsoever to see this movie. My boyfriend borrowed it from a friend, so I joined him to watch it. It was really good. Good comedy.

The comedy seemed to peter out after about the first half. Still worth a look.
