A story about this — 1 year ago
As an expat living in Asia and I didn’t actually know what the soup was, although I was assured it was not real shark, I am unsure if I believe my hosts.
I think its amazing that 1087 people have admitted to eating shark in some form or another. I guess that means more than 1087 sharks have died for our consumption.
Have you seen this movie?
Its of a Chinese woman throwing a tantrum because there is no shark fin soup.

It doesn’t matter if the movie is real or not.
It demonstrates a greedy, selfish, environmentally and self destructive attitude. The same one that will see the desire for sharks on the menu continue and as time progresses and the numbers of sharks dwindle it will just push the price up and become more of a luxury item, as they hunt for the elusive last of each species.
I believe China’s growing middle class and burgeoning wealth is the tipping point in terms of environmental destruction and as a foreigner living in this country I have very little hope.
