WORTH CONSUMING!

Ho-hum. It’s a nice idea – I’m very creeped out by the thought of waking up with no memory of how I got to be in my current situation, especially when that situation is institutionalised. Ever since reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest for exams, I’ve been quite freaked by just how easy it’d be for a perfectly normal person to be trapped with an ‘insane’ branding.

However, the film’s weakness is the supernatural/spooky element, which just did nothing for me, really. And the overdose of flickering lights was sheer ham. Really, I’m more interested in the psychological horror than the out-and-out ghosties and whatnot. If they could have tied the two together better (or at all) perhaps that would have helped.

On the plus side, I did actually think Halle Berry’s performance was pretty good. Alas, apart from Robert Downey Jr (who I’m liking more and more), the rest of the cast was entirely mediocre.

So, not terrible, but nothing great or memorable, either.

edit
I’ve said ‘not memorable’, but that’s obviously not true as almost a week later and something about this movie is still with me. Perhaps I liked the atmosphere more than I thought, as I’ve been fancying watching more slightly-horror movies – not like me! So, shall give a tentative up to ‘worth consuming’, with the warning that my ‘craving’ might be just to see this film again – but better!

The setup to the story was great, the explanation was terrible. Quite a cast of characters got roped into this movie. I understand this was done by the same fellows who did “Ghost Ship”. I liked that movie much better.
The blue tones in the movie were done well.
