NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Gorgeous cinematography, but Van Sant didn’t seem to have anything to say. By closely following the victims and omitting any explanation or motivation for the killers’ actions (instead showing them playing FPS and purchasing guns), it just comes off as flat and emotionally manipulative. GVS is better than this, and is fully capable of showing the good within the awful. Why he chose not to bewilders me.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Elephant was on my “must-watch” movies list for a long, long time. I saw the stills of the movie in a film stills community and then read up on the Columbine shootings in-depth.

After having watched this movie, I am not sure how to exactly put my feelings in words. It is one of the movies that intrigues you for all the wrong reasons, and you don’t know what to make of it at the end.

I love the cinematography and the narrative style, but am unsure about the plot and the characters overall. In Elective English classes, we used to read about these one-dimensional characters – and that’s what all the characters in the movie seemed to be like..

Ah, well, I shall go rambling at this rate..shall get back to this soon after given the movie another go.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

would have been “Various People Walking Down Long Hallways Accompanied by Creepy Piano Music”. It was impossibly slow moving, and while usually I can appreciate the overlapping-stories plot device, it’s done sloppily here. Sometimes it’s hard to know where what’s at on the timeline.

Boring and shoddily put-together.

Definitely not for everyone, but a great film. — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I have to agree that “Elephant” is a slow film, with a ton of long-takes and repeated scenes, but if you take the time to analyze the form with the narrative then you’ll come out with a much nicer image of the film as a whole.

It’s a good artistic endeavor with a storyline that you don’t see much of because of certain events in recent years.

WORTH CONSUMING!

A tad slow through the beginning, but the overlapping of stories is great to help you follow. Not too much unnecessary talking, or music, or anything to distract you from the plot. I liked it!! A wonderful Sundance flick to satisfy your movie cravings.
