I fully intended to put this book down. I didn’t care for the protagonist’s rambling, often haphazard style of narration. The plot sucked me in; I kept reading another page, and another, and just one more until I realized: okay, I guess I’m reading this book, then.

I’m so glad I did. For me, the mark of a truly great story is that it leaves you feeling sorry it ended so soon. I really wish McKinley had written some sort of sequel or even an epilogue to this story.
