WORTH CONSUMING!

I loved this film for all the reasons people say they love this film (e.g., the colors, the quirky characters, the inspirational tone.) I also think it gives depth and originality to the topic of romance which is so overdone. But there was a sad side to this movie as well.
Amelie has struggled all her life feeling like an outsider. In fact, all the characters are tormented by inner pain and demons—even if some of them we get to know and understand little.
Amelie tries to help because she recognizes others’ pain and one day sees she can be an instrument in changing that-something she had never considered before. In the end, some of her “help” sticks, some does not, and for others we just don’t know if it’s made any difference-but to read this film as just uplifting, without recognizing the underlying message of human alienation is to somewhat miss the point.
It’s just too bad, people aren’t so simple and transparent in real life. It would be much easier for us all to help one another.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I showed this movie to my strictly subtitle fearing, “guy-film”, action movie lover boyfriend earlier today. After a few rants and complaints as I was putting the disc into the DVD player, the movie had begun, and he was instantly hooked. Amazing to see someone like that enjoy the movie so much. He didn’t even want to get up in fear of missing a single second. He loved the quirks of the characters and the adult humor. He kept repeating “It’s so colorful…” It brightened my day to FINALLY see him enjoy one of my movies.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is easily one of the most enjoyable films I’ve ever seen. It’s set in one of the world’s most beautiful cities and featuring a collection of quirky and / or likeable characters : Georgette (quite possibly the definitive hypochondriac), Raymond Dufayel (who is obsessed with Renoir’s “Luncheon of the Boating Party” and never leaves his apartment), Joseph (who takes jealousy to a whole new level)...and, of course, Amelie herself – an imaginative romantic. It’s filmed in French and subtitled, which might put some people off – for me, however, the subtitles actually seem to add to the film’s enjoyment.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Let me start of by saying, I am not compatible with movies and subtitles. Nor do I speak the tiniest of French.
But this movie is an absolute gem. Truly not to be missed.

I watched Amelie for the first time on my Birthday and although my attention span was screaming; my eyes were glued to the screen.

Now I’ve watched with subtitles and know the story, I’m gonna re-watch without subtitles for the sheer beauty of the movie itself. The colours, the scenes, the people, this is art.

WORTH CONSUMING!

The plot was sweet and unconventional, and I loved the method of storytelling. The film (being French) included all sorts of funny details that would not have been included in an American film.

WORTH CONSUMING!

A quirky, magical movie about a quirky, magical woman. Clearly, Amelie is one of those people who, instead of looking at reality and asking “why?”, looks beyond reality and asks “why not?” And inspires others to ask “why not?” as well.

It’s not just well written, but very carefully crafted.

I got the original dvd for my birthday. I had a pirate copy (yeah.. someone arrest me), but having this little box in my hand with all the glorious colors has been the perfect gift.
I watch it at night, in bits, sometimes I choose a scene, or pause it and let it glow in the dark. I suffer from anxiety and this is my anti-anxiety medicine!

I love this movie. Is this the reason for the fascination with gnomes? Now I want to take a gnome on a trip around the world :) Might as well – life is short. Might as well have a little fun…
