Ummm — 1 year ago

Well, I understand how this movie has a following simply because of the way it explored the whole pre-destination theme.

But apart from that, I must say that some parts of the movie felt very convenient…as if it was chucked in as an afterthought to allow the plot to chug along and reach its planned ending. For example, the science teacher. To me, he was basically placed halfway in the movie, to let Donnie explore questions about time-travel and most of all, to pass him that book written by Grandma Death.

The parts with the rabbit suit were hard to watch…it was too slow-paced and honestly, led me to turn myself away from the screen cos’ it wasn’t a pleasant experience looking at the rabbit and hearing it speak in a veeerrrry slooowww mannnner.

But the good part about the movie is how it makes people talk about it and discuss the themes explored.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I love movies that make you think…discuss… and end up having to re watch several times just to get the whole picture, its what makes life worth living :P

Seriously though…I like it when smaller, more independent films are succesful and the fact that it has become a cult favorite just makes me like it even more…why can’t there be more “intelligent” movies out there that…long live the indie film!

It’s a “GroundHog Day” sort of stretch, however, I think I finally figured out a possible explanation why somebody would have to “die” for our sins.

i just dont understand why theres so much fuss made about this movie. its ok i guess, the acting is good, mostly i liked the satirical portrayals of some of the teachers and the “fear-love” guy, so cheezy, but the rest, well, i guess its kind of an adaptation of ray bradbury-s “scythe”. id much prefer that story to this film. overall, the film is not as deep as it was probably intended to be and many people consider it to be. but its a good try. oh, yes, and the coolest one is mommy darko:)

I love sci-fi, so it disheartens me to say I didn’t love the movie. Mostly, I just found it confusing, even after I’d read some of the director’s commentary.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Interesting, loved loved loved it.
Might be confusing at points, but bear with it, see it several times if you have to, and I guarantee that you’ll love it too.
It can change your life. I remember thinking about that movie for a long time after I saw it. Me and people would just sit and discuss it for hours. Made me quite a philosopher.

Excellent, unique movie. Try not to get snookered into seeing the cheesy “director’s cut,” though, at least not until you’ve seen this version.

Dude this was like a massive acid trip. I needed to look it up on wikipedia to understand what the fuck happened. I recommend this, but I also recommend everyone checking out the page on wikipedia too.

As every movie with Jake – MARVELLOUS!
Donnie persuaded me that madness is more sane than sanity…
I also liked the idea of showing people’s life paths, including the paths of their desires. It’s good to be conscious of them.
And besides, ‘why are you wearing this stupid man suit?’

Donnie Darko is an interesting film in how it subverts expectations and how it is constructed. I think that it’s a bit overrated and other films have done similar things, but I enjoyed the structure quite a bit. Since the film is built around a secret, I won’t reveal it, but it’s definitely worth seeing.
