NOT WORTH CONSUMING

because forcing myself to watch this movie felt like homework. What a trite piece of garbage. This is like a semi-interesting 2 hour music video—you know how you get bored watching a 4 minute video? I admit, I didn’t even watch the whole thing. Know why? I didn’t HAVE to. It wasn’t really about anything. It was a poor attempt at a script loosely based around Beatles songs. Around every corner is another lame excuse to play another of those famous songs. There were characters named Jude (Hey Jude), Prudence (Dear Prudence) and Lucy (Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds). There was even a scene in which Prudence, well, She Climbed in Through the Bathroom Window. FUCKINGLAME! I guess the story was about the turbulent times of the 60’s and 70’s but we’ve seen a billion of these movies and Across the Universe brings nothing new to the table—nothing to expound on or challenge perception. I mean, I love the Beatles too but this was a totally watered-down version of all those songs. It’s like the Beatles meet High School Musical the movie. If you really want to pay tribute to the Beatles turn on one of their records and listen to them the right way.
