FBI profiler Illeana Scott (Angelina Jolie) asked by longtime French-Canadian police friend to aid in search for serial killer, male, 30s, who stalks, kills men approximately his age and size, usually loners so disappearance not immediately noticed. Killer assumes last victim’s identity, leads his life—even pays taxes (?!)—while seeking out next victim.
James Costa (Ethan Hawke), high-strung gallery owner, witnesses latest murder. Brought in for questioning, released, then stalked by killer. Hunt continues. Socially awkward Costa under protective surveillance, develops friendship with Scott.
Hawke’s first role where he doesn’t look like he smells bad. Jolie’s boob shots—gratuitous. Somewhat satisfying ending.
