What a delightful interpretation of history! I don’t think I have enjoyed romance on-screen ever as much as in this movie (maybe in Mughal-e-Azam). Ashutosh Gowariker’s vision and treatment of the movie is worth applauding. Being so used and almost numb to melodrama and tearjerker romances, this is indeed refreshing.
One thing about India period dramas is that somehow directors and cinematographers focus on opulence of interiors, jewels and outdoors but this film is so much human, the focus is on the characters themselves instead of how much was spent making them look like the characters.
Beautiful songs, great chemistry between the character and an effortlessly entertaining movie! I highly recommend. Don’t be fazed by the length of the movie..you won’t realize how time passes.
