Liz Taylor is a sex kitten in this. I fell in love with her the second she rubbed ice cream in her little brat of a niece’s face.

She’s cool and calculating. She’s had to work her way up from poverty, and you get the sense that it was a fight. She’s going to get her way no matter what it takes.

”Don’t make a fool of yourself, Maggie.”
”I don’t mind makin’ a fool of myself over you.”
”Well I mind. I feel embarrassed for you.”
”Feel embarrassed! But I can’t live on this way.”

Her determination is obvious, naked, but somehow it doesn’t come off as unattractive.

I originally saw Cat on a Hot Tin Roof on Broadway with Elizabeth Ashley and Keir Dullea in the leading roles and they were definitely worth watching. So the first time I saw this film, I thought it was tame compared to the stage version. However, watching it again gave me a new appreciation for the talents of Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman. And, frankly, a new appreciation for the hunkiness of Paul Newman as well.

A true classic;

Has a happier ending than the play, but is otherwise true to the original.
