WORTH CONSUMING!

All the monologues were a bit awkward, but I think it mostly worked. And Jack Black is hysterical. But since I positively adore the book, the film couldn’t quite compare. I think the change of settings (London, 1995 to Chicago, 2000) kind of ruined the atmosphere. John Cusack is kind of sweet and endearing in this, though.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This movie is definitely number one in my all time top five movies. Take a movie about a music geek in love who compares everything to some kind of song or album, and you’ve got the perfect movie for a music geek like me.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I have three complaints about this movie-
A) It was too slow,
B) It had too much awkward narraration,
C) It tried to present a tale of a man who discovers what love truly is but only presented a tale of a man and a woman who stay together because they don’t want to be lonely for the rest of their lives &
D) I failed to feel bad for Rob/John Cusak. He sounds like a nice guy at first but eventually you realize he’s just an irresponsible, whiny, lovesick jerk.

I think the screenwriter should’ve either-

A) Adapted it to a screenplay or
B) Left it as a book.

My Dad says I didn’t enjoy it because I haven’t experienced love. I enjoyed Thelma and Louise and I’ve never been on the run for murdering somebody for trying to rape my best friend. I think the movie just failed to be enjoyable.

On a positive note the acting was very good.

I read the book and then saw the film. The film was better than the book because Rob was less whiny, lazy, neurotic, and pathetic than the character in the book. The movie gave you the impression Rob had learned his lesson and was starting to get what “love” meant and why he loved Laura. The book, on the other hand, made me think about how sometimes people stay together just because they don’t know where else to go or what to do—not because they are really thrilled to be together. And that’s sad.
Hollywood can’t have that kind of realization about romance. But it’s nice to think things can work out. So, it was better than the average romantic movie, but definitely not one of my top five all-time greatest films.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It was ok. A good story but they needed to pick up the pace a bit. Many small sections of the movie were slow and boring. For instance seeing Charlie, that should have happened sooner and he could have spent more time talking to her. In fact the obession with Charlie was the most intersting part of the movie.
