Pure gold, and possibly the most quotable film ever.
Rewatching it, I was reminded of how deftly it changes tone, and wraps what is a wonderfully told story in the shiny wrapper of a children’s high fantasy adventure.
The scene where Inigo is trying to break down the door gets me every time. The actor injects such incredible desperation into his voice – he absolutely nails the character’s emotions in that moment.
I guess I’ve never understood people who go around quoting Star Wars all the time – until I fell for this. It’s just full of classic lines, plus everything else a fantasy/adventure/action/romance movie needs: a princess, a pirate, a giant, etc, etc, etc.
Perfect movie when you’re under the weather. Perfect.
The last time I watched this was the original release in the theater. The sound was spotty then, so I missed a lot of the dialogue. This film is priceless, a classic! I had forgotten a lot of the humor, and yet when certain scenes came up I knew they were going to be funny! And the casting in this was extraordinary, especially Billy Crystal and Mandy Patinkin.
I grew up on this movie and my siblings and I can recite any line in it and we used to dialogue between us when we watched the movie. We watched it so much that the video tape wouldn’t play anymore so we bought the DVD
Its hard to not of seen this movie. Its good though, its got all the classic fairy tale elements, god guys, bad guys, a princess and true love. Its also got great casting, plot twists and unexpected dialouge.
Another one of my litmus tests. I would have to wonder if we could even be friends if you didnt like this movie.
