It’s a quick, quirky read, a little sentimental, and ultimately of little substance. Good for the beach, I’d say.

I didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did (and I really did), especially since I was kind of meh about it after reading the first few pages. I set it down to chat with some people and when I picked it up again I read the rest of it in one sitting, wanting to know what happened. Worth reading.
This book drops you straight into the action right on page one. From there to the end, it’s one disaster after another. The imagery of bees and honey pop up throughout the book. It’s interesting, but the symbolism can be a bit heavy-handed at times.
The problem with this book is that everything fits together a little too easily. Among other things, the story would have been a lot better without the completely predictable romance between the white main character and her black coworker. Not much happens between them but awkwardness, and suddenly they’re in love? I don’t think so.
Really, this book turned out to be a lot like honey – it’s just fine in small doses. Just don’t try to consume it all in one sitting. You’ll make yourself sick and find yourself longing for something with more sustenance.
This book was completely amazing. Enough said.
I say, consume it!
this is the best book i’ve read in a while. i want to be a beekeeper now.
I loved this book. I wasn’t sure that I would because sometimes “bestsellers” turn out to be more hype than quality, but not this book. The underlying theme of bees throughout was beautiful, and I fell in love with the calendar sisters, especially August (of course). But what got me most were the main character Lily’s feelings of abandonment, anger, and low self-worth. When you lose a parent to death or abandonment, those feelings all whirl around inside you, sometimes all at once. I was amazed to read in the interview with the author at the back that she had both of her parents growing up.
Now I’m wishing I hadn’t borrowed this but had bought a copy for myself to keep!
I liked this book. It had good characters and a fairly interesting story. It was also a pretty good narration.
I loved this book. It’s a great novel, very touching story and I love how the author interweaves the information about bees. I was on a big beeswax/honey kick for months after that. Still love bees.
My wife has assured me that this is not just a chick book, and I’m glad I trusted her. This is a great story, warmly told, for anyone.
A cute book, easy to read, but nothing fantastic. Seems like a good candidate for Oprah’s book club.
While it really couldn’t hold a candle to To Kill A Mockingbird, it kind of reminded me of that book, just a little. I’m glad I read it.
I liked this much more than I thought I would. I had forgotten I read it until I saw this here again (it’s been a while), but I actually enjoyed it quite a bit.
I loved this book, and it surprised me. This is not something I would usually read – This type of book, style of writing, storyline. However, I loved it! Great book, good read!
For the most part I enjoyed reading this book. The characters were likable and believable. Also it was a tad predictable, but I didn’t mind much because I liked the characters.
Over all it was a lighthearted easy reading book.
Beautifully written, very moving. Kidd is a talented storyteller. I can’t wait to see more.
