A common reaction to this album is initial hatred, followed by becoming curious enough about it to want to give it a few more listens, follwed in turn by fascination with the album, followed by simply loving it. Such was my reaction. Check out European Son and marvel at the fact that every little bit of feedback in that track was supposed to be there. There’s lots of feedback, distortion, and noise on this album, and it got me fascinated with the concept of noise as music.

The first time I listened to this I didn’t like it. The second time I listened to it, I was annoyed that I couldn’t understand anything the singer was saying. The third time, I got a copy of the lyrics and then I started to appreciate the music. Some of the tunes are upbeat, but the topics are really dark. I thought that was really interesting. I’ll Be Your Mirror is probably the only one with a hopeful message, but most of the songs really have something to say. I’m glad I listened to it a few times. I don’t think those who are unfamiliar with the band can appreciate the songs on the first try. I still wish Lou Reed had a better voice though…

ok its good, i guess, and for the day, maybe a little extra good considering what was out there. but all i hear when i hear it is a guy who either sucks at writing lyrics, or is making them up as he goes along.
which isnt my bag.
