I was skeptical about this from the very beginning. But one of college friends put me onto Lyle Lovett and I’ve been hooked ever since. His lyrics are dead on. His musicianship is superb. Yeah, I may be one of three black guys in the whole wold who digs this guy, but I don’t care. Check out “Skinny Legs”, or “If I Had a Boat”. They’re phenomenally good. People will sing these songs until a comet plunges to earth and brings another ice age.
