the only reason i watched the whole thing is caused for the big finale which didn’t even happen. maybe it was good for back then but it doesn’t hold up.

I have a hard time watching black and white movies, but somehow this movie trancended that.
For the time it was made, I can see why it is so acclaimed. It doesn’t compare with great contemporary movies, but there is something very nostalgic and moving about Casablanca – and therefore very worth consuming! :)
“Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she had to walk into mine”.
An ok story, definitely not some thing I could appreciate. Not at least in 2007.
I didn’t think I would like this AT ALL, but after watching it it’s become one of my favorite ‘classic’ movies. It’s just full of great lines, and Humphrey Bogart is amazing.
I absolutely loved it, although my mother wasn’t too impressed. It was much funnier than I’d expected.
my dvd player broke halfway through this movie. so i guess there’s no more looking at you, kid.
Interestingly, no one in the film ever says, “Play it again, Sam.”
Best movie ever, as far as I’m concerned. Sharp, witty dialogue, intense situations, colorful characteres and an inspiring transformation for Bogart’s character. Add in the amazing musical treatments of “La Marseillaise” and “As Time Goes By” and you can’t miss with Casablanca.
I finally got to see this movie and I really enjoyed it. I loved Bogart’s character, who is grumpy yet romantic, and makes some of the best back-handed remarks. Best line: “Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she had to walk into mine.”
I’m also glad they didn’t stick with the original title of the movie: “Everybody Comes to Rick’s.” That just doesn’t scream ‘classic’ to me.
I know it won an oscar and all, but I thought this movie was terrbily dry, and I really can’t stand Humphrey Bogart. I love old movies, can’t get enough of black and whites, especially if they have Clark Gable in them, but I was just horribly unimpressed by this movie after all the hype it got from teachers and… other people way older than me. My mom didn’t like it though… I should have listened to her and stuck with Liz Taylor movies.
every so often i re-rent this movie purely so i can complain. i am not a fan of black and white movies, i grew up with color but i’ll let that slide. she cheats on her husband while he’s in a concentration camp and i’m supposed to feel sorry for her??? it’s worth consuming only for the fact that it boggles my mind.
