Experimental and controversial, I Am Curious (Yellow) ’s explicit sexual content made headlines in 1969, ultimately helping reform American obscenity laws. But is it any good? Kind of. It has its moments of brilliance (particularly the documentary within the film), and Lena Nyman’s performance is truly great. My biggest problem is that it’s really an examination of social inequalities in Sweden and women’s rights in the 60s, and I’m just too far removed from that time to really embrace this movie like I wanted to. Interesting from a historical standpoint but not as enjoyable as it would have been 30 years ago.
