Hmm. I asked and got this book for Christmas when it first came out in my language (Dutch), I was about 12-13 years old and had taken an interest in philosophy. But after reading about a quarter I had to stop as I was almost bored to death. I disliked the Sophie character too, felt no connection whatsoever. Several years later I was helping my then-boyfriend study for his exams, he was taking a philosophy course as well. So I picked up the book again, thinking perhaps it was too much for a 13 year old and deserved another shot. Turns out it was just as boring as I remembered, and so I didn’t got much further as before. Oh well.

This was really good! but there was so much information that I couldn’t possibly take it all in – i will probably have to read it again sometime…

One of my all-time favourites. Philosophy in the form of a novel, written in the form of a conversation between a small girl and a elderly person. The history of philosophy is well brought out, though it drags at a few portions. Well, I keep re-reading it whenever I feel like it.

Quite enjoyed it, but I was reading it too little at a time and I lost the thread. Will have to re-read it one day…
