I loved this book! It’s hard going, since a lot of it is in phonetic English, but I love the characters, and I particularly liked the way the plot all came together right at the end.

A non-Culture ‘hard’ sci-fi novel from Banks. And it’s good. He did the thing where you don’t know what’s going on till the end, and that’s great.

Absolutely transfixed by this… I read everything Banks writes as sci-fi (tip: Iain M. Banks is when he’s writing sci-fi), partly because I love his “Culture” universe. This one is truly eeeerie.

One week or so later… Sadly, this doesn’t seem to be a Culture novel, but it is very mind-bending. Not as fun to read as some of his later stuff.
