A story about this — 2 years ago
What a thoroughly dark movie! Watch Wade Whitehouse (Nick Nolte) descend into his own personal hell. What is really scary is how a tremendous enemble cast assembled for this movie (Sissy Spacek, Willem Dafoe) with the excellent acting (James Coburn, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in his role as Nolte’s father) got drawn into such a totally pointless story. The trailers cite this as perhaps Paul Schader’s greatest film. Wow. Did they not see Taxi Driver? Sorry, but I cannot recommend this. Watching a man disintegrate in slow motion is not my idea of enjoyable movie faire, no matter how haunting the characters are.
