The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas — 2 years ago
This is very easily my favorite piece of literature (with A Tale of Two Cities in close second). I originally picked this book up because I had heard it described as one of the greatest romance novels ever written – they weren’t kidding. Saturated by action, adventure, love, betrayal, and revenge, this book intricately weaves the gripping lives of its characters into a tumultuous interdependent and eventually explosive climax. While a translation of its original French publication, the story’s language is still rich and beautiful, eloquently leading the reader through a gripping tale of justice, mercy, and redemption.
