Less fun on the Wii — 4 years ago

I am a fan of Rock band in general – verying “f-ing” addicting as others have suggested. But the Wii version is a bit of a let down.

Unlike other consoles you cannot download additional song tracks, there is no customizing of the characters, the world tour mode isn’t as fun and the Wii guitar hero guitar is not compatible. Oh, and the guitar that did come with our game broke on the first day.

WORTH CONSUMING!

The title really says it all. Rock Band is quite possibly the worst thing to happen to my – and my friends’ – free time. Since picking the game up last month we haven’t been able to stop playing, despite finishing the lengthy Band World Tour, the game’s main mode. It’s just too fun to put down, even after you’ve long gotten sick of playing “Wanted Dead or Alive” and “Maps”.

Of course, it’s really only fun when you’ve got a couple of friends to play with. Playing by yourself (unless you’re just practicing a particularly difficult song) is nowhere near as much fun, even on drums. There are some other little nicks with the game that bother me (not being able to change a band’s leader, limited customization options, etc.), but it doesn’t impact the game as a whole.

Another nice thing is that there’s tons of downloadable content, so you can always add more songs to your game. While it does suck that the songs actually cost money, it’s not a huge amount ($0.99-$1.99/song), and you don’t HAVE to download them if you don’t want them. Still, it means that technically Harmonix doesn’t need to make a sequel so long as they keep putting out new tracks to download. Which is great, because I don’t like shelling out $50 for a bunch of songs I don’t like.

In short… yeah, Rock Band‘s pretty freaking addictive. And now I’m off to go attempt the Endless Setlist.
