WORTH CONSUMING!

I loved it! I’m a big Jane Austen fan, but the book kind of disappointed me. I wasn’t sure of the writing style, and all the “we”s felt weird, plus the backstory distracted us from the main storyline. Here all the stories are beautifully woven together and I enjoyed it a lot. Sadly my DVD was a scratched and I lost the ending, would you believe it! I managed to see most of it though I missed 5-10 minutes. Anyway, I really got into all of the stories, loved all the characters, I thought the actors were all very good. :)

WORTH CONSUMING!

I don’t often go for… ‘slushy’ movies, quite frankly. But sometimes the feelgood factor is much appreciated :) And this was really quite appealing – not too much slush, nothing too OTT, and a very impressive cast.

I do wonder if I may have gotten more from the movie if I actually knew more about the collected works of Austen – and I did leave with an urge to read Northanger Abbey! – but it still worked okay, with most relationship problems explored and, yes all resolved by the end of the movie, one way or another!

WORTH CONSUMING!

The only thing i don’t understand about this movie is why the lesbian daughter broke up with the writer… i mean, if you’re writing about someone, doesn’t that mean that you love them? i guess she did reveal her secret, but other than that i don’t get it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

My daughter and I had a weird coincidence last night. It was getting too late for any gaming, so we decided to watch a movie. She wanted to watch ‘something freaky’, so we watched The Dark, which fit the bill pretty well. At first I thought the woman who played the mother in the movie was the same woman who played Rose in Doctor Who, although Rose definitely looked younger. In any case, I checked the credits to see who the woman was who played the mother, and it was Maria Bello. Never heard of her. Strangely enough, my daughter is now completely ‘freaked out’ and does not under any circumstances want to go downstairs and go to bed. So we aimlessly look for another movie – of a lighter theme – to watch. I come across The Jane Austen Book Club and remember that I was interested in it when I first read a review in the paper months ago. It just so happens that out of the hundreds of movies I could have chosen, I picked another movie with Maria Bello in one of the main roles, (She plays Jocelyn). Weird!
