Logsdon's best! — 39 weeks ago
I love Logsdon anyway. But in this, because it is fiction, he captures every nuance that his essays often capture but all in one place. He is so good with character that you feel these people are really people you know. At least, I do. Or I with I knew a few people who were somewhat engaged in some of the pursuits that I consider to be important and worthwhile.
He is so good with a story that at one point, as I was reading it in the kitchen because I had gotten to that point where I had to read and couldn’t put it down, I cried and then laughed out loud within just minutes of each other. My husband declared that I was really getting my money’s worth out of this read.
And he knows what he’s talking about agriculturally. Much to be learned there from him even in a work of fiction.
And the scene that is in the diner, where the farmer’s are arguing, wow, it is just breathtaking in its realism. Also the description of hand milking is so accurate, capturing both its difficulty and it absolute joy.
Yeah, this is one I’d like to give everyone, but instead talked my library into buying it for me!
