WORTH CONSUMING!

This book is good, even if you’re not the graphic novel type. It’s the story of three Adolfs: Adolf Hitler (who is more of a presence in the book than a character), Adolf Kaufmann (the half German-half Japanese son of a Nazi diplomat), and Adolf Kamil (his Jewish best friend) in the years leading up to World War II in Japan. It’s action-packed, with a bit of intrigue surrounding the murder of a drunken geisha and a scandalous rumour about Hitler.
At first I found it a bit weird to be reading a historical story with Astro Boy-looking characters, but eventually I just got used to it and got wrapped up in the story.

I’m very interested to read Tezuka’s view of World War II as seen from teh perspectives of three men named Adolf. Flipping through the book, I can see that the art is an interesting mix of Tezuka’s cartoony-anime style, along with a richness of detail I haven’t seen in much of his other work.
