Rebus retires, and with a suitable sting in the tale. Another superb slab of page-turning crime writing from Ian Rankin – I hope this is not the end of the Edinbugh crime stories. Read it, but read the rest first.

My only quibble is that Rebus once again gets a suspension, but is proved right. Rather like Harry Potter, after five or six times of being right when everyone else disbelieves him, you think someone in authority might have noticed and given him the benefit of the doubt.

I bet we see Rebus and Big Ger Cafferty again, though…
