My viewing of this movie was slightly coloured by having seen The Birdcage first, but that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. I was really surprised, first of all, how similar La Cage was to the American version; there were scenes that were lifted whole cloth from the French film. The weird thing is that some of the scenes that are played for laughs in the American version are much more subdued and dramatic in the original French. Not that the French version isn’t funny, it is, sometimes screamingly so. The players are very well-cast and do their jobs well. It’s a good movie, and worth seeing – particularly if you like the remake.

(And yes, I know that line isn’t exactly in the movie. I just love that part in BOTH films.)
