This has been on my “want to read” list since I first heard about it. A recent subscriber to Bookswim this was the first book I placed in my “pool”. So when it arrived today I set to reading right away.

It was a quick easy read and there are definitely moments of enjoyment. I loved the food descriptions and the travels around Italy. John Grisham obviously loves the country and the sport.

But the main character was a bit of a jerk who is slightly redeemed and the football scenes were endless (and mostly scanned by me).

You would be better off to read The Broker – which I totally enjoyed

Not a great book. And I don’t understand football so I skimmed over the details of the games. Kind of a cop-out ending. Rick was extremely shallow when he arrived in Italy and I didn’t see much growth, which didn’t make him very likeable.
