It’s a hugely popular book here in Québec – great sales, won lots of prizes, etc. Plus, my sister knows the author! So when I saw it on sale (in a 3 for 2 deal) I didn’t hesitate much and picked it up. I read it extremely fast (24 hours!), just like old times (I read like a maniac all the time as a kid).
It’s a pretty good book, the characters are interesting and their stories are interesting. Weirdly, though, when I closed the book I was filled with a feeling of uncompleteness. I guess I would have liked a bit more interactions between the characters, and it really lacks a real closure. It’s not a bad thing in itself – in fact, it leaves lots of room for imagination – I was just a bit taken aback.
I would still recommend this and I think it’s a good Québec book, though I don’t think it will be a major turning point in our litterature as some people are thinking.
