“Everlost” is a pretty incredible book. There are 2 main characters, Allie and Nick, both fourteen. They should have crossed over but end up in a place called Everlost. Everlost is a place between the living world and, I suppose, heaven or hell. They never met but their paths crossed when they were killed in a car accident on a mountain road.
Neal Shusterman writes about their journey through this spirit world. Will they find their way home? Will they stay in Everlost forever, waiting? Will they find a way to get where they are going?
It is an action-filled adventure and fast-paced journey exploring a place where only children can go. Allie is an amazingly strong protagonist. She continues to live her life in Everlost the way she lived her life in the “real” world. She questions everything, values her friendships, does not settle for the status quo. Nick, when he was alive was shy, quiet, and fearful, after he gets captured by one of the monsters in Everlost, he discovers his purpose and his courage.

This is one of my top books for 2007.
