Very cute…in a dysfunctional sort of way. Nobody in this film has a “normal” life, least of all Annie the Nanny, well acted by Scarlett Johansson, who combines youthful angst with anthropological observation and just enough flirtation to keep our interest. For my money, Laura Linney turned in a stellar performance as Upper Eastside mom Mrs. X . Nice small role for Alicia Keys as Annie’s friend, too. The male parts are well acted but stereotypical and less developed. Then again, it is the Nanny Diaries, so no real male perspective should be expected. See it just for fun.
