Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming this — 2 years ago

I am not into reading about politics so “Dreams from My Father” has been a slow read for me. I have to admit that Mr. Obama’s vocabulary is extended beyond mine, so I have to infer the meaning of words I am to lazy to look up. Also, I do not have to assimilate a black and white culture..much of this book is about this assimilate. I did not get my feelings (resentment maybe) until I read the comment made by his white girlfriend “I cannot be black.” And the white tourist. “Sins of the father.” While I read this book I reflect on my belief that Mr. Obama is a president for the people. He has proved that with determination and hope, great things are possible.

I will be done with this book soon, and I recommend it for all readers. An ordinary man accomplishing extra-ordinary goals!

WORTH CONSUMING!

I took a course in African American History to know more of whence I came and also to find out more the history of our people; Well, the instructor had a list of books that we could report on, and each book I suggested, it was already taken until I requested that I read this book here; Now, like most of you I had no knowledge of this man or his existence until the 2004 Democrat National Convention when he gave a DARN good speech; made me wake up and smell the coffee; I knew then that this man had a bright future ahead of him, and I went on his site, I tried to read more about him, and I just went and bought his book for my report; And the book doesn’t disappoint; Born to a Kenyan father he barely knew and a White mother in Hawaii, Obama takes you through the odyssey of his life; funny though, the book was published originally in 1995, but when he made his speech, the book became VERY popular; you can also feel the awkwardness he felt at times when he tried to embrace the black culture in spite of being brought up by whites;

WORTH CONSUMING!

I almost literally could not put this book down. His story is interesting and told with eloquence, honesty, and insight. It is incredibly intimate look into one man’s search for his identity, and yet it also provides an important viewpoint on the state of race relations in the United States.
