Why I recommend this — 3 years ago
“Sea of Monsters” is Book Two the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. I loved it just as much as the first, “The Lightning Thief.” Another action packed year for Percy, who just is returning to Camp Half-Blood for the summer before he starts 8th grade, who knows where. Again, Percy and his camp mates need to save the world from Kronos. They travel from Long Island to the Bermuda Triangle to Florida and back to Long Island. Along the way, they encounter more monsters and challenges, like maneuvering past two obstacles to get into the Sea of Monsters as well as dealing with old enemies. My nephew, who’s five, sat engaged as I read it to him over the Thanksgiving holiday. He now has an introduction to Greek mythology and creatures, like satyrs, centaurs and cyclopes. My niece, who’s 12 and had just finished “The Lightning Thief,” grabbed my copy and sat on the couch immersed until I had to leave. If those two events do not tell you something about how good this book it, then I don’t know what will.
