A woman sacrifices everything for her son. She becomes a prostitute, endures ridicule, and becomes a virtual slave to “The Boss.” Only one man, the headmaster of the school she has worked so hard to enroll her son in, comes to her aid. But even he must give way to the wave of negative public opinion. There is a happy ending, of sorts. Ah, to be making silent films in the early 1930s, when everything was truly black and white.
