WORTH CONSUMING!

This film was advertised as Moore’s “funniest movie to date” and a “hilariously scathing indictment of America’s failing health system.” I found nothing funny about it at all. A guy has to choose which of two sawed off fingers to sew back on because he can’t afford both. Is that funny? A woman’s husband dies because his health insurance will not approve payment for a bone marrow transplant that could save his life. Is that hilarious?

I personally benefited for many years from Japan’s National Health Insurance program. I had regular check-ups every year… free. Any problems were caught early, as they are in France and England and Canada and most other mature economies, but not now that I’m back in the good old U.S. of A. Not funny at all, but a damn good story of how greed has corrupted the American health care system, making it impossible for even those who have “good” coverage to get the help they need when they need it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

If anything, the point of Michael Moore’s movies is just to get people talking about the subject, feel a bit more empowered, and just get stirred up about it. the problem is that Moore himself, by bringing light to a subject, diminishes the issue.

sicko, for instance, has Moore drawing caricatures of the world’s health care systems. dont get me wrong, he brings up a lot of good points, but one always has to keep in mind he has a very specific agenda while making this film. plus, hes a total asshole while doing so.

i dunno, i wanted to like this movie more, but him, moore’s constant unabashed spinning makes him no better than the right-wing crazies on Fox sometimes. i just wish it was more of an actual documentary, thats all. theres plenty of stories out there that require no spin.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’m not an acolyte of M. Moore, but I have lived without health insurance and this movie certainly hits home and makes me angry and sad. I have no idea what is wrong with our country! When others in the world find it common sense (and common decency) to care for everyone even the less fortunate, because they expect they’d be treated with the same benefit of the doubt if they were in that position; we continue to operate with greed that serves the few, reviling the less fortunate around us for “just not being deserving”. There are a lot of reasons I feel lucky to have been born an American, but this issue is not a bright spot for our country.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I visited a friend yesterday who was recovering from an outpatient surgical procedure. She wanted to watch a movie, and chose Michael Moore’s “Sicko” from the cable “On Demand” menu. I stayed to watch it with her. She was disappointed, because she had thought it was going to be a comedy.

This movie is not a comedy. It takes on the very serious subject of problems with health care insurance coverage in our country. I had heard and read so much about this movie when it was first released that I almost felt like I’d already seen it before. This movie was very uncomfortable for me to watch, because I have many unanswered questions about my own health insurance eligibility since my divorce, as well as concerns for uninsured friends and relatives.

Sicko - A Documentary About Corporate Evil — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Sicko is yet another eye opening documentary from Michael Moore. The target of Sicko is the US Health care and Pharmaceutical industries. France, Canada, England, and Cuba all have a socialized universal health care system. We here in America DO NOT have a socialized universal health care system. We have HMOs run by Evil Corporations. Fifty percent of the bankruptcies in the US are caused by people that can’t afford their health care. So the business model is this; corporations get rich off of greed, human suffering, and doing their very best to NOT provide the health care they are supposed to. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Bush lauds a lady in the movie for working three jobs, and calls it “Uniquely American”.

Michael Moore shows how the health care system is broken and clearly needs to be fixed or better yet replaced. Currently our health care system is run by evil corporations that only think about profit and corporate evil. For the Punch line at the end, Micheal takes some Patriotic Americans that were the heroes and good Samaritans of 9/11, to Cuba. These former fighter fighters and volunteers receive free Health care from Cuba!

We need to boycott the US health care system, insurance industry and the pharmaceutical industry until this is fixed and the Government puts an end to this. Go to France, Canada, England or Cuba on Vacation for your Health care and Medication. Make sure you have your friends see this film. I would like to know who has caused more human suffering, the Nazis or the HMOs and the Pharmaceutical industry? I put my money on the latter two (the HMOs and the Pharmaceutical industry) but there isn’t much difference between the three organizations.
