A crew of 10 cops (plus groupies) let off steam in MacArthur park. Wambaugh puts every cop story he’d observed into this book and takes no prisoners. Los Angeles certainly didn’t breed no angels and the cops are often more like demons but such is life. A blistering piece of writing, savage and knowing. I guess you’d call it dark humour operatically rendered with gritty urban grime. When you see the things these guys see on the street you are liable to be walking wounded – heck I’d need choir practice.
