WORTH CONSUMING!

a great movie that made me cry. not exactly a “new” idea though, but very good acting by will smith! the evacuation scene and the death of sam was quite touching.
only thing I didnt like so much was the end. would have been more realistic if he didnt find the cure. and this stupid girl and her belief in God… well at least he died, so it didnt get toooo kitchy… :)

ok, add some American stereotypes: a radio broadcasting football news, golf, Shrek, car race,
add some tearjerking apocalyptic scenes: a kid crying, the president making a statement, the evacuation
add some CGI and Will Smith, mix these ingredients and you get a movie for average Joe.
All is plain clear: we have the good guy, some virus gets loose and some men are transformed in zombies. No need for much intrigue or existential questions.
Also some things don’t make sense and i give 3 examples: why the cure for cancer will be announced as…just another news? why the zombies don’t attack when he’s injured and crawling, instead they unleash the dogs? what makes HIS blood so special that cures the virus?

I saw this movie a couple of weeks ago with my friends. Overall, it was a pretty good movie, a lot of action (I pushed my chair all the way back, freaking out, at the part when the creature comes out of the darkness when the guy is looking for his dog) and it was really sad, especially the part when the dog dies, and he’s singing Bob Marley, I was practically crying, because I am a major dog lover (I have two) so Judy (border collie) had to sleep with me on my bed that night. It was pretty suspenseful, cause that part where he got stabbed with a knife and the creature came out with the dogs, that was really scary because I’m like, hurry up! It’s getting dark!! lol I get really into movies as you can tell. I didn’t like the ending asmuch, and I didn’t see why he had to kill himself.

The shrek part was funny, cause he’s the voice of the donkey lol so he was saying it along with the movie

WORTH CONSUMING!

i’ve never read the story, and this wasn’t what i was expecting, but it was good. Not the best movie of all time, but Will Smith being able to move me to tears is definitely something. Not the best ending, but interesting and somewhat inspiring. Loved Emma Thompson’s cameo.

Bleh, they should’ve kept the original ending. This is just sooooo Hollywood.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Absolutely worth viewing except for:

- the god part
- the landscape being wonderful but slightly unrealistically undamaged in subtle ways

And I’m hoping for a DVD alternate ending.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Decent performance by Will Smith, the action sequences were exciting. That’s the good stuff. However, there were a lot of slow spots and the ending was disappointing. Not to mention that most of the “rage virus” stuff was a total rip-off of 28 Days Later. Still, it was entertaining.

A lot more tense than I was expecting. I really thought it would be a Hollywood action/horror, but instead there was a lot of bleakness, with a surprisingly raw performance from Will Smith as a man losing his mind, thinking he’s the last of the human race. Very dark psychologically, rather than so much with the vampire-zombies (I don’t mind that they were zombies rather than vampires: they still didn’t like the light, they still bit people, and they still infected others. Close enough!).

Even without having read the book it’s obvious that the ending is tacked on Hollywood, but I can really see why they wanted a small lightening up of the whole thing.

I love Will Smith. Edge of my seat for the entire movie. Great stuff.

I know there are quite a few reasons why I should not like this film, but I can’t help it. It’s zombies and Will Smith.

As a kid growing up in a remote, rural area, I had a huge fear of rabies. Thanks to this movie, that all came back to me. Creepy.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Does every bit of entertainment have to be an allegory for the war in Iraq now? Is that, like, a requirement?

WORTH CONSUMING!

I thought this movie was awesome right up until the end. I have to agree that the ending seemed forced. However, Will Smith’s performance was excellent; damn near nomination worthy really -maybe not worth the statue, but his performance was up there with Viggo’s in Eastern Promises (on second thought…maybe not, but still good). papertrix’s comments have most definitely made me want to read the book. Freakin’ Hollywood and their “happy” endings.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Parts of this movie were very good, especially Will Smith’s performance and the cinematography of the mostly-abandoned Manhattan. But there were many logic gaps and plot holes, as well as unnecessarily graphic and gory violence. And without being a spoiler, the ending was very forced and unsatisfying.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’m not a stickler for film adaptations keeping completely true to the book, but in this case I think it was very odd that they chose to keep the title I Am Legend, after the short story, when the moral of the movie version is pretty much the exact opposite of the one in the book. The whole point of him saying “I am Legend” in the book is because he finally realizes as a human he is now obsolete, that he has become some legendary thing of fanciful past. In the film the humans prevail instead, surviving largely due to their moral superiority, the military, god, and some lady and child who show up out of nowhere. I’m surprised Will Smith wasn’t resurrected after his crucifixion. The title I Am Legend is retained for no apparent reason other than to provide a bizarre and weak connection to Bob Marley. Yes, Bob Marley. All that said, the first three quarters of the film were very entertaining.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I don’t get it. This movie is slow and boring except for “the infected.” There are a couple of chuckles here and there like when Will Smith tries to befriend some mannequins in a video store or when he recites, word-for-word, lines from the movie Shrek. The scary parts gave my date an excuse to cuddle up close to me which, in this case, did make the whole thing worthwhile. However, had I not been out with an adorable girl who wanted to see this movie, I never would have watched it. If you’re the type who finds it entertaining to jingle change in your pocket, you’ll love this movie.

WORTH CONSUMING!

The movie was over 45 minutes ago, and I am still on edge. It was that good.

Seriously, if you want to feel that true survival instinct (and possibly have cardiac arrest), go see this movie. If I don’t have nightmares tonight, there is something wrong with me. But trust me, that’s a good thing. :)
