When I first started reading this, I was skeptical as to whether I’d like it or not because I’d heard so many different opinions on it. The thing is, you can’t really compare it to A Million Little Pieces, because they’re such different books. AMLP is about Frey’s 6 weeks in rehab, My Friend Leonard is about his sober life after he gets out of jail, trying to rebuild his life with much help from Leonard. I really enjoyed the book. It didn’t have as much anticipation as AMLP, but it was certainly a great book and the themes discussed worked well with Frey’s style of writing. I definitely look forward to reading his fiction, Bright Shiny Morning.
