A great new start for Walt Disney Animation — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was a fun movie. It started out great, as it was really exciting as more and more story pieces were revealed. I am a sucker for time travel stories anyway, so I was very engrossed by the plotline.

However, once the story moved into the future, things started becoming a little weird. The characters in the future acted really strangely, and the action and jokes were flying by at a jerkingly fast speed. I had feared that the movie was starting to unravel, and I was slowly becoming uninterested in the movie.

However, I’m glad I stuck it out through to the end, as the ending was wonderfully done. Even the bumpy middle part of the movie made sense as the complete plot was revealed. I had once felt that Walt Disney films should always be mainly traditional animation, and that full computer animated films should be handled by Pixar, but now I see the beauty of using three dimensional artwork in Walt Disney Animation films thanks to the breathtakingly scary final moments of the film.

The last moments were a real wow moment for me as I saw how they combined the story of the movie with Walt Disney’s mission. The movie was executive produced by John Lasseter, making this movie the first movie overseen by the Pixar crew who are now in charge of the Walt Disney Animation Studios. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us in the future, as this movie is a great start in bringing Walt Disney back to the forefront of animation.

Creative — 1 year ago

It was cute and creative and although mostly predictable it had it’s moments. It is definitely a kids movie and didn’t have TOO much adult appeal but it was creative.

A story about this — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I was really looking forward to this movie, mainly because it looked much better than Home on the Range and Chicken Little (though I have yet to see both of them!). So, I bought the DVD as soon as it came out and was happy to pop it in the DVD player.

I was a bit disappointed. It’s not a bad movie, it’s just that we know Disney can do so much better! The time-travelling thing is always interesting, the graphics were okay, the characters were likable enough (though I thought the villan was a bit pathetic, but that was probably the point). The story wasn’t very well-balanced though, the beginning and ending were fine but the middle streched out and my boyfriend even fell asleep (I was sleepy too!).

I really liked the “Keep moving forward” thing though. It was a very nice reference to Walt Disney. It made me hopeful for future Disney movies; it’s like they were acknowledging that currently they are not at their best, but that they won’t dwell on the past and keep trying to do their best in new movies (Rapunzel and The Frog Princess have me hopeful). Also, though the music wasn’t remarkable having Rufus Wainwright was a pleasant surprise.

The DVD in itself is fine for a single-disc. I like the slipcover, heh. The game is okay, not too childish. The making-of is really good for this type of release, it’s just enough developped (and again, yay for Rufus appearances). There’s also a little documentary about “great inventions” that was quite interesting, though it spent an abnormally large time on Walt Disney (though I love the man, I don’t think he deserves taking twice the time of Edison).

All in all, it’s an okay entertainment. I recommend renting it though, it does not have a big relisten value.
