I’ve read somewhere else that similar to a sinkhole – one way (or the best way?) to get out of quicksand is to place your stick horizontally, on the sand’s surface, and lie down on it. Use it as leverage to get your body in a horizontal position. Then slowly monkey crawl to safety. Slow, tedious, hard work – but it’s a lot better than getting sucked down to the earth and dying, innit.
