Suzanne Vega adopts a new sound with each album, but sometimes I wish she’d just stay with a simple acoustic guitar. Beauty & Crime seems more of a concept album than a regular collection of songs. Vega brings New York City to life with her tales of urban life, loneliness, love, and redemption. There are a few standout tracks, but overall the album falls flat. It’s lacking some quality of inspiration despite being Vega’s first album of new material in nearly five years.
